At Pinnacle, we agree with a quote shared by Rob Lowe: “We have maps and map makers ad nauseam. What we need are more mountain guides.”
If we are making the map and bulldozing a path that doesn’t align with our client’s wishes, we aren’t doing them any favors. If those same clients are bulldozing a path and pulling us along for the ride but not utilizing our advice: who is the guide?
The ideal picture is this idea of journeying S.T.E.P. by S.T.E.P. and side by side.
The second S.T.E.P. acronym provides a way to give direction to your personal journey to True Wealth and a path to follow as you begin to think in ways that maybe aren’t part of your normal conversations and thought patterns.
We are here on a journey, and as we walk through life, it is about each S.T.E.P. along the way:
Spiritual – We believe that it is with intention, not flaw, that the human design appears to have a spiritual hole. There is an internal yearning that is searching for something to make us complete.
Things – Our nature is to want things. That is also part of the design. Some will attempt to fill their life with things to plug the spiritual hole, hoping that more things will make them feel complete. But there remains a battle between want and need, and it’s essential to stroke a balance between them. When the desire for things consumes you and your passion and focus are for personal prosperity, not personal responsibility, you will never be complete.
Experiences – To really find your freedom and live “life by design,” you must continually experience life to its fullest. It might be a bucket list of things you hope to accomplish. Getting in touch with the experiences you most treasure and wish to share can help you discover what is most important personally.
People – Finally, think about the people in your life, past and present, and envision the future. People who have mentored, inspired or challenged you to be a better person or whom you have challenged to be the same. People you wished you could have spent more time with but are deceased. Life is short, so make it meaningful, for you and those around you daily. Don’t wait, and don’t blink.
These four elements should be in harmony, in sync, and in balance. But it requires commitment and discipline. Finding True Wealth is attainable, but being truly happy and complete often requires a paradigm shift in your focus.
What would your life be like if you were financially confident, physically fit, spiritually nourished, emotionally engaged, and surrounded by deep, meaningful relationships? It doesn’t get much better than that, right?
You would wake up each day with energy, passion and a sense of responsibility, greeting everyone you meet with a smile. You would be motivated and inspired to make a positive, meaningful difference in the lives of everyone you would meet. That is the pinnacle we call True Wealth. And the reward? Even more than a life in balance that is fulfilled, one day you will hear, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
